Secure Your Future

An addition to Tuition.io’s suite of products helping employees get 401(k) plan matches for qualifying student loan payments they make.

At Tuition.io, a fast-paced startup based in San Mateo, I led the design of multiple 0-to-1 MVPs, including Secure Your Future (Secure 2.0) — a benefit helping employees upskill with employer support. I designed two interconnected experiences: Tuition.io Admin (internal), and Employee (end users), ensuring seamless usability, clarity, and alignment with business and user goals.

My Role

Lead Product Designer

Timeline

MVP Design (4 Months) to Post Launch

Team

I worked closely with the CEO, VP of Engineering, and cross-functional teams (product, engineering, sales, marketing and customer success) to define requirements, inform product roadmap and feature prioritization.

Impact

Addition to the company’s suite of products and increase in participation in other tuition.io products (Public Service Loan Forgiveness, Income Driven Repayment, Student Loan Repayment)

Challenge

How might we Enable employers to easily configure and manage their Secure 2.0 benefits

How might we design a user-friendly experience for employees allowing them to view, understand, and leverage the new Secure 2.0 benefits with existing student loan repayment options, promoting financial wellness and engagement?

How might we build a flexible, scalable platform for tuition.io to rapidly adapt to changing regulatory requirements and client needs, ensuring long-term alignment with the evolving benefits landscape?

The product

Secure Your Future (Secure 2.0) is a Tuition.io offering that lets eligible employees receive a 401(k) match—determined by their employer—when they make qualifying student loan payments. To create a unified platform experience, we integrated data flows seamlessly between Secure 2.0 and Tuition.io’s other student loan products, ensuring consistent and accurate information.

The Process

As the sole Product Designer on the Secure 2.0 MVP, I led and owned the design process — from conceptualization to developer handoff. Faced with shifting requirements and ambiguous objectives, I rapidly iterated on solutions, clarified user needs, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver an impactful product ahead of time.

Features

The product comprises a Tuition.io Admin portal (internal), and Employee portal (end users) which work together.

Landing Page

Employees land on an enrollment page which explains the Secure 2.0 product.

Enrollment

First time users enroll by linking their student loan account. They then land on a dashboard which initially shows that they have not made any payments as there is a wait period before the benefit kicks in.

Employee Dashboard

The dashboard is the “central hub” of the product, where the employee gets an overview and insights into maximizing 401(k) contributions and can certify loan payments.
