The AI Paradox: Too Many Tools! What is my Usecase?!
I’ve been a ChatGPT Plus subscriber for over a year, paying OpenAI $20 monthly for what became an indispensable Swiss Army knife – brainstorming partner, sounding board, and even my gym tracker. I’d built a dedicated project to log my lifting progress, watching it evolve with each workout. Then I hit the memory limit. Suddenly, my reliable system broke, and I found myself questioning not just the subscription, but the effect of invisible constraints like memory limits subscriptions to the pro version of LLM’s.
That’s when the question’s hit me: what am I actually getting from this subscription for my specific needs?
The rise of the AI influencer
Very recently, Google launched Gemini 3. While researching it, I came across news that Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff had switched from ChatGPT after three years of use. That got my attention – when a tech CEO makes that kind of public move, it’s worth investigating.
Choosing the right LLM for my use case
I started by asking Gemini to compare the three major LLMs. Surprisingly, it didn’t sugarcoat: Claude Pro for deep writing and production-level code, Gemini Pro for rapid prototyping, ChatGPT Plus for versatility. Seemed straightforward. But as I continued evaluating by testing features, reading comparisons, considering my workflows, I hit a wall.
For my current needs, I decided to try Claude as it is great at writing; however, I have a feeling that my need will change in the future!
To “choose” or “not to choose” multiple subscriptions
The competition between OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic has created a capability-driven market where each provider excels in different areas. For users with budget flexibility, the solution is straightforward: maintain multiple subscriptions. But for the majority facing budget constraints, each month requires a strategic choice about which tool delivers the most value for their specific use cases. This raises a fundamental question about the subscription model itself: are we better served by loyalty to one platform, or by strategically rotating subscriptions as our needs change?
